Breaking The Fast at Cafe I Am, Saltlake Sector-V

“Momo I Am” has always been my favorite for simple fuss-free Tibetan/Chinese food at very reasonable price. Starting from the days in Lake Gardens outlet to the more frequented one at Golpark, I have always sworn by their momos , baos and shyafaleys. Oh, did I miss mentioning their super Chilli Pork and Lhasa Pork? They are a must have at Momo I Am.

Now you must be wondering why I am talking about Momo I Am, when the post title says “Cafe I Am“? Let me start with a teaser pic! 😉

So on a warm Sunday afternoon, I was invited for the Breakfast Menu preview (which starts from 20th March) by Cafe I Am in collaboration with a group of bloggers. This will take you through some drool-worthy food pics (with my rants in between)! 😀

Where? If you are foodie and keeping a tab on the new food joints in our city of Kolkata, you cannot have missed that Momo I Am opened up a cafe in a sprawling 6000 sq ft space in RDB Boulevard in Sector V and named it as “Cafe I Am”(Google Map link: https://goo.gl/maps/T3KyPKGvj652)

Kolkata doesn’t have too many proper breakfast places, save the more nostalgic and less appetizing (nowadays) Flurys and the cafes at the starry places! This one definitely fills the gap. Had a long night shift, or an unplanned night out at office or do you want to catch a lazy brunch with friends and family over the weekend – this is the place to be!

The first thing you will notice is the amount of space the place has. Divided into 3 distinct sections, it can easily house 150+ people. For me, its a very important thing as my kid, Rishaan loves to run around in his own. And there is also an area for live music! Who doesn’t want a good music being played live while we are having our favorite drink or food!

Diversifying from the traditional Tibetan-Chinese fare that Momo I am excels in, this was a welcome surprise for me! And they made sure that they are equally good at this as well and I am not complaining, you see 😀

Starting with an English breakfast platter followed by some French Toasts on Watermelon base to wholesome burgers, the Chefs at Cafe I Am have really given a good twist to what we know as ” breakfast” and have presented them in an equally alluring fashion.

And it’s not just the food, actually to complement what you eat, the Chefs served a range of coffee, frappe and smoothies. Like the one here – Strawberry Milkshake and it was just superb! I was raring to have another one right away!

Strawberry Milkshake

On food front, my pick will be the Big Brekkie breakfast platter, Cafe I Am Classic Burger and Chicken Caesar salad.

Big Brekkie breakfast platter had glistening poaches 🍳, baked beans, sausages, toasted bread, hash browns, grilled tomatoes and (wait, till I relive it) BACON 🥓! The best part of this was the bacon – no extra salt which we find so often in Kolkata restaurants. So ❤️ for that special touch!

Cafe I Am Classic Burger was equally tasty with the almost running yet still egg, on top of the patty, dripping through the soft buns!

Chicken Caesar salad – even though I steer clear from “healthy food” but seeing the fine layer of cheese topped with smoked chicken pieces and toasted crumbs, made me dig into it! Yes, it was ❤️ !

Tip: If you have a super energetic kid as mine, make sure you order the Carnival French Toast. It’s loaded with colors which is so nice to look at and equally engaging to taste. With candy sharing the plate with marshmallows and some ice-cream and few gems littered around, kids will gorge into what’s being served with it. (Pic seen below)

I also tasted this unique dish called “Dumpling Shakshuka” and being new to this form, I was pretty surprised by the unique partnership of soft dumplings with gooey egg-based rich sauce!

Coming back to the drinks , apart from the Strawberry milkshake, I will definitely recommend any of the cold coffee frappes which will complement these breakfast options.

Pocket Pinch: So you must be wondering how much this all will cost? Fear not, like Momo I Am, its cafe Cafe I Am ,also is reasonably priced. | Aussie Big BrekkIe – INR 300/- | Carnival French Toast – INR 280/- |Chicken Caeser Salad – INR 250/- | Cafe I Am Classic Burger – INR 280/- |

Top Tip 1: In case, you are looking for what else you can have here, so you do get the same goodness of Momo I Am menu like Chilli Pork and Pork Momo.

Top Tip 2: If your soul is looking for a chilled beer or a glass of smokey whiskey or some alluringly cool cocktails (and you are not looking for tea or coffee), still fear not as they already have a fully functional bar. 🙂

I was very satisfied with ambience, coupled with good food and smiling people around me. So definitely 👍 from Foodie Honuman! Do let me know how do you like this place – find us in Facebook or Instagram or here itself.

Till then, Foodie Monkey bids you good-bye and wishing you a happy meal!

NOTE: I was invited to a bloggers’ meet for the Breakfast menu preview of Cafe I Am. All opinions mentioned here, are however my personal feedback.
