Sushi Trail in Kolkata continues – Week 2 @Fuji

Our love for Japanese cuisine, had us looking out for new Sushi joints aound us – be in Australia, UK or Ireland. After relocating back to Indis, we started missing out on our favourite food and thus started our Sushi Trail, searching for the perfect Sushi place in Kolkata. After our rendezvous at Sushi Oke last week (Sushi Trail – Week 1), this week our Sushi temptations led us to Fuji.

Fuji is the latest offering for Japanese food lovers in our City of Joy and quite a good one I would say! The decor of the place is very cute, with the waitresses  wearing traditional Kimono and the tables decorated with small Japanese artifacts. The place also had two zashiki (traditional Japanese low seating arrangement).

We started ou order with a traditional Japanese Miso Soup, which we found to be quite authentic to taste. Next was the Jonogiri 7 Kan (Nigiri). While there are quite a few Nigiri options to choose from, try this one for a comprehensive tasting of their range. This is a platter of 7 different kinds of non-veg Nigiris containing one each of Salmon, Tuna, Prawn, Octopus, Squid, Salmon Roe and Basa. We quite liked the Salmon and the Tuna ones, but absolutely loved the Salmon Roe (salmon eggs) Nigiri for its unique flavour and brilliant colour.

Last one was the Tuna Maki rolls, which were great and I have not tasted such fresh tuna anywhere in Kolkata.

Fuji lived up to its namesake, with its unique and authentic Japanese dishes and what we loved best was their fiery wasabi paste which complimented their food perfectly!

One suggestion though, the ginger strands should have been a tad softer and not so chewy.

Food – 4.5 / 5
Ambience – 4 / 5
Value for money – 4 / 5

Our Sushi trail continues… till next time 🙂
